Understanding General Practice, Michael Wright Local Medical Council
Following negative and damaging coverage about general practice in the media, our Chief Executive Michael Wright, has produced a video to help patients understand some of the unique challenges that practices face daily. You can access the video here if you wish to share it on your social platforms to help raise awareness and understanding amongst your patient populations.
The Institute of General Practice Management (IGPM) has also put a video together to raise awareness of the abuse that practice staff receive from patients. You can access their video here.

New Patient Registration

As from the 5th January 2015 there has been a contract change for patients registering with a GP Practice.

Before this date patients could only register with a GP practice if their postal address was within the Practices catchment area. As from the 5th January this will no longer be the case. A patient may register with any practice within the United Kingdom regardless of their postal address and the Practices catchment area providing that the practice are participating in the new contract changes and the partners deem the patient suitable and will not be placed at any clinical risk by not having a GP in the area where they live.

However, the significant draw back for ‘Out of Area Registered Patients’ is that their registered GP is NOT contractually obliged to provide any home visits under any circumstances. If a situation did arise that a home visit was required the patient would be required to call 111 who would give them details of a GP in their postal address area who has signed up to an enhanced contract to provide this service when needed.

The reasoning behind the change in contract is primarily designed to help commuters or are not in their postal address areas when their GP Practice is open.

registrationYou can register via this website by completing the attached forms or you can contact Reception who will explain the registering process. After we have received your initial application forms you will be added to our practice list within 24 hours and will be offered an optional appointment with our Healthcare Assistant or Practice Nurse for a New Patient Health Check. This will include height, weight, blood pressure etc. although this is not essential to your registration.

You have a right to express a preference of practitioner and we will try to ensure (subject to availability) that your preference is met.
